Heads Up: Gastric Stimulator Parts Are Running Out, Newer Model Still Awaiting FDA Review

If you have a gastric stimulator, or are planning to get one, here is a practical heads-up worth knowing early — while options are still being worked out.
Community members are reporting dead batteries and a need for replacement parts, according to a post shared October 19, 2026 by Melissa VanHouten. The post flags two issues that may impact care:
- Key components of the current model are unavailable — they can no longer be purchased, and supplies have been exhausted.
- The newer model is under ongoing FDA review. No approval date is yet available.
That is a difficult gap for people who rely on gastric electrical stimulation, especially because, as the post notes, members have few alternatives, and concern grows as more people are impacted over time.
Please do not hesitate to contact your physician to discuss your options if you are affected by this. The post also notes you have a right to seek additional information and advocate for yourself by contacting Enterra and/or the FDA directly.
This post is general information only, not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for talking with your own clinician about your diagnosis or treatment.
GSSI does not provide medical treatment. We support patients with non-medical needs while they are being treated, such as hotel stays, food and grocery cards, and local rides when funding is available, plus gift bags. Our long-term goal remains Jennifer’s GP House, a home away from home for patients and families close to treatment.
We will share updates as clearer information becomes available — without overpromising a date or an outcome.
